Colorado National Monument

National monuments are usually smaller than national parks, but I was pretty surprised at how large the Colorado National Monument was. After touring the visitor center, I realized that there is a lot of hiking to be done in the park. However, neither Jason nor I were feeling like hiking that day so instead, we just drove the scenic loop and stopped at the many beautiful panoramic canyon turnouts.

The main road runs along the upper rim of the canyon and you do have to walk to see most of the vista points. The drive and the short walks were beautiful with sandy/graveled paths and some bushes and shrubbery scattered all around.

The convenient drive allowed us to take the monument drive as a scenic route to Grand Junction.
